  • Users can create accounts using email/password or by signing in with their Google account. When using Google Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.

1.2 Information Automatically Collected

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Usage Data: Companies you search for, view, divest from, or invest in; portfolio activity; shares made; and feature usage patterns
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, mobile network information
  • Log Data: IP address, browser type, access times, pages viewed, and the page you visited before navigating to our Service
  • Analytics Data: Aggregated and anonymized statistics about how users interact with the Service

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do NOT collect your actual brokerage account information or login credentials
  • We do NOT track your real financial transactions or bank account balances
  • We do NOT access your actual investment holdings unless you manually enter them into the app
  • We do NOT use third-party advertising trackers or sell your data to advertisers

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service: Create and manage your account, display personalized content, track your impact, and enable social sharing features
  • Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns to improve functionality, fix bugs, and develop new features

  • Display Aggregate Statistics: Show community-wide impact on the Global Community Statistics page (all data is aggregated and anonymized)
  • Maintain Security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • Comply with Legal Obligations: Respond to legal requests and prevent illegal activity
  • Research and Education: Conduct research on ethical investing trends (using anonymized, aggregated data only)

3.1 Information We Share

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With Your Consent: We share information when you explicitly authorize us to do so (e.g., when you share a company report to your social media)
  • Aggregated Community Data: We display aggregated, anonymized statistics (total divests, total investments, total users) on the Global Community Statistics page. This data cannot be traced back to individual users
  • Service Providers: We work with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics, email delivery). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may only use it to provide services to us
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect our rights, property, or safety
  • Business Transfers: If Ethical Investor is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy

3.2 Information We Do NOT Share

  • We do NOT sell your personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties
  • We do NOT share your individual portfolio holdings, divest actions, or investment decisions with anyone (except in aggregated, anonymized form)
  • We do NOT provide your email address or contact information to marketers or third parties without your explicit consent
  1. DATA RETENTION

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or security purposes.

Aggregated Data: Even after account deletion, anonymized and aggregated data (e.g., “X total divests made by the community”) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be traced back to you.

  1. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You can access your account information and usage data at any time through the app settings
  • Correction: You can update or correct your account information through the app
  • Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at privacy@ethicalinvestor.org
  • Data Export: You can request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Opt-Out of Communications: You can opt out of non-essential emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or adjusting your settings in the app
  • Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” feature. Our Service does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals

Note: If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with specific data protection laws, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar regulations. Please contact us to exercise these rights.

  1. SECURITY

We take the security of your information seriously and use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect it, including:

  • Secure password hashing (we never store passwords in plain text)
